Depression
Many life factors and experiences can cause our mood to fluctuate. You may have noticed periods of sadness, feeling less control of your emotions, more irritable and “snappy” with loved ones, fatigue, and less interest in activities you once enjoyed. When this feeling persists for multiple weeks, it can feel debilitating. You may have thoughts of “what’s the point?”, feel defeated and hopeless, feel alone, and unworthy of love and support. I can help restore your hope by rediscovering your “sense of self”. The person you are at your core, the things that make you, “you”. Together, we will explore your values and important qualities that define you as a human and ensure that you are taking action that aligns with the things in life that you find most meaningful. Therapy can help you rediscover your sense of purpose and find more fulfillment in life.
Anxiety
Anxiety is extremely common and when uncontrolled it can feel like it is taking over all thoughts, emotions, decisions and day to day activities. You may notice opting out of activities, commitments, work, school because avoidance of the task feels safer and easier to manage than confronting the thing that is causing fear and stress. Anxiety can also manifest in physiological symptoms including racing heart, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, sweating palms, trembling hands, nausea and headaches. Anxiety can also take the form of irritability and an overt need and urge to control the situation and environment by ensuring everything is in its place, hyperfocusing on cleaning, feeling unsettled at the slightest disorganization. Through therapy, I will teach specific strategies to give those distressing thoughts and sensations less power over you. You will develop more insight into your triggers and increase understanding into the impact your internal dialogue and beliefs have on your perception of events, thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Relationships
Life is full of connecting with other humans but as we know, humans are complicated! Relationships can feel exhausting, hurtful and invalidating when certain dynamics are present. Maybe you are feeling taken advantage of or feel relationships you are a part of are not reciprocal. Do you feel uncared for and unappreciated? During our time together, I can help you understand interpersonal dynamics that are causing you stress and identify strategies to help you express and assert your needs, implement boundaries that preserve your self respect and build mutually satisfying relationships and connections with others.
Life Stress
Life is unpredictable and when unprepared it feels intolerable, unmanageable and hopeless. During the therapy process, I ensure you have the internal and external resources to help cope with life stressors; whether that is the birth of a child, a new job, a big move, the ending of a relationship or loss of a loved one. Therapy can give you the skills to help manage unpleasant emotions, accept change and reduce emotional suffering.
